Function of the kidneys:

  1. Kidneys are part of the excretory system.
  2. In the kidneys, urine is produced and moves down through the ureters to the bladder.
  3. The bladder holds urine and eliminates it through the urethra.
  4. Excess water and toxins are filtered out from the blood by a pair of kidneys and the pH and ionic balance in the blood is maintained.
  5. Another function is to produce renin hormone, which controls many functions most importantly controlling the blood pressure.

Life without kidneys:

  1. The toxic waste products in the body cannot be removed without a kidney.
  2. So, without kidneys survival is not possible.
