Can you live without B-cells?

Solution

Function of B-cells:

  • B-cells are part of adaptive humoral immunity, they produce antibodies.
  • Antibodies are antigen-specific immunoglobulin molecules.
  • They protect us from foreign molecules (pathogens).

Life without B-cells:

  • The adaptive humoral immunity will not work to protect our body without the availability of B-cells.
  • The immunodeficiency disorders will arise as a result of this.
  • Without B-cells, we will be vulnerable to invasive pathogens.
  • In such case, some pathogens may cause a fatal disease which will lead to death of an individual.
