Solution

Extra-chromosomal genetic material:

  1. The genetic material that is present beyond the genetic material present inside the nucleus is called extra-chromosomal genetic material.
  2. The extra-chromosomal is usually a double stranded circular DNA.

Mitochondria and chloroplasts:

  1. Mitochondria and chloroplast are the organelles in the cell which possess their own genetic material.
  2. These two organelles have their own DNA as well as ribosomes responsible for the expression of genes in the extra-chromosomal DNA.
  3. This is why these two organelles are called semi-autonomous organelles.
