Question

Can you overcome Gravity?

Open in App
Solution

  1. Gravity can be escaped by moving away from the gravitational field of any object at a specific speed. This speed is known as “Escape Velocity”
  2. The mass, mean density of the object determines its escape velocity.
  3. The escape velocity of every planet, moon star, etc. Are different depending on their mass.
  4. Hence, if we travel with a speed equal to the escape velocity of a particular planet, then one can overcome the gravity of that particular planet.

Example: Flying planes and deploying satellites are two examples. As aircraft and satellites are able to escape the earth's gravitational pull.
