Question

Can you suggest the kind of motion of a body from the following displacement time graphs?

Solution

  1. In graph (i), the displacement-time graph is a straight line parallel to the time axis which depicts that the body is not changing its position with time and hence depicts the state of rest.
  2. In graph (ii), the displacement-time graph is a straight line inclined to the time axis, which depicts that the velocity of the body is constant and hence depicts the uniform motion.
  3. In graph (iii), the body is in uniform motion for some time and then comes to rest and stays at rest.
