Can you think of a situation, where we deliberately want to make a species extinct? How would you justify it?

Humans can cause the extinction of species through various means.
The smallpox virus (Variola) has been successfully eradicated through a campaign of the WHO that involved mass vaccination.
If some microbes are dangerous to human society and other than having a parasitic interaction, do not serve any useful purpose, then such an attempt is justified.
