Solution

Part 1: Sigmoid growth curve
It is an S-shaped graph that represents the sigmoid growth in organisms over a period of time.
Part 2:Components
It has the following main components: Initial lag phase: Slower development due to fewer cells introduced into a set of conditions. Rapid exponential phase: Fast development due to abundant resources and minimal environmental resistance. Gradual stationary phase: Onset of unfavorable conditions like gradual exhaustion of nutrients cause decline in growth.

Part 3: Example
A sigmoid curve is obtained while analysing growth of seasonal trees. It is also observed for plants growing in natural conditions, typical for all cells, tissues and organs.

Part 4: Growth curve of tree showing seasonal activities
They display sigmoid growth curves. Example of summer yielding varieties:
  • Lag phase: In spring season, when the growth starts from a few cells.
  • Exponential phase: In the summer season, rapid growth and yield due to favorable season.
  • Lag phase: Declined growth at the onset of autumn and static in winter due to unfavorable conditions.
