The correct option is C when the cell cycle regulation is defective
The mitotic cell cycle consists of G1, S, G2 and M Phase. Some cells that will not divide further do not proceed beyond G1 phase. They start undergoing differentiation into specific type of cells. Such cells are said to be in quiescent stage or Go phase. Such cells will be metabolically active but will not proliferate.
There are check points such as G1/S and G2/M and also Go phase that regulate the cell division. If such cell division is not regulated then the cell tend to divide uncontrollably. This continous cell proliferation leads to the formation of tumor and thus cancer.
