Solution

(1) The magnitude of (–3) is 3.
So, magnitude of the product = 12 × 3 = 36
The product of a positive and a negative integer is always negative.
∴ 12 × (– 3) = (–36)

(2) The magnitude of (–6) is 6.
So, magnitude of the product = 6 × 4 = 24
The product of a positive and a negative integer is always negative.
∴ (–6) × 4 = –24

(3) The magnitude of (–15) is 15.
The magnitude of (–5) is 5.
So, magnitude of the product = 15 × 5 = 75
The product of two negative integers is always positive.
∴ (–15) × (–5) = +75

(4) Magnitude of the product = 35 × 8 = 280
The product of two positive integers is always positive.
∴ 35 × 8 = +280

(5) The magnitude of (–38) is 38.
The magnitude of (–2) is 2.
So, magnitude of the product = 38 × 2 = 76
The product of two negative integers is always positive.
∴ (–38) × (–2) = +76

(6) The magnitude of (–61) is 61.
So, magnitude of the product = 15 × 61 = 915
The product of a positive and a negative integer is always negative.
∴ 15 × (–61) = –915
