Response: This message is sent to the brain by these nerve cells. So the brain understands the message and the response given is pain.

3. Stimulus: These sensory nerve cells transmit information to the brain and spinal cord, causing motor neurons to fire.

Response: The hand muscles receive the signal from the motor neurons to remove the hand from the hot plate.
