Cell division serves the following functions: ______, ________ and________. Mitosis helps in ________ , _______and _________. DNA replication happens once during _______ followed by ________. Humans have _________ chromosomes i.e. diploid condition.

In meiosis, parents cells are _______ while daughter cells are ________. Meiosis occurs with two cell divisions -- first is reduction division and second is mitotic division. In simple organisms all germ cells are generally similar. In complex organisms, germ cells take in differential roles. The egg is generally large and contains a good source. The sperm is small and mobilr . Conventionally, _________germ cells are called male gamete.

Solution

Cell division serves the following functions: (1) the reproduction of an entire unicellular organism, (2) the growth and repair of tissues in multicellular animals, and (3) the formation of gametes (eggs and sperm) for sexual reproduction in multicellular animals. Mitosis helps in growth , repair and asexual reproduction. DNA replication happens once during mitosis followed by meiosis. Humans have 46 (2x23) chromosomes i.e. diploid condition.

In meiosis, parents cells are diploid while daughter cells are haploid. Meiosis occurs with two cell divisions -- first is reduction division and second is mitotic division. In simple organisms all germ cells are generally similar. In complex organisms, germ cells take in differential roles. The egg is generally large and contains a good source. The sperm is small and mobile . Conventionally, sperm(testes) germ cells are called male gamete.
