Question

certain amount of heat is given to
100g of copper to increase its temperature by 21 deg c. if the same amount of heat is given to 50 g of water, then the rise in its temperature is (specific heat of copper = 400 j kg^-1 k ^-1and that for water is 4200 j kg^-1 k^-1)

Solution

Dear Student

Heat energy in the copper system is Q=msT
Where m is mass of copper m= 100 g =0.1 kg
s is the specific heat s= 400 J kg-1 k-1
T is the temperature T= 21 C0 =273+21=294 K
Q=0.1 x 400 x 294 =11760 J

Equal amount of heat is given to the water

Q=msT
11760=0.05*4200*T
T=11760/210=56 K

Temperature of water will be 56 K
