Question

Cesium can be used for photoelectric cells not lithium. Why?

Open in App
Solution

  • The ionization potential of cesium is lower than that of lithium.
  • Hence Cs can lose electron very easily while lithium cannot.
  • As compared to Cs, Li is smaller in size and therefore, requires high energy to lose an electron.
  • That's why, cesium can be used for photoelectric cells not lithium.
