Addition of hydrogen halide to 1,3-butadiene could give us two types of product. One is the kinetically-controlled product which is obtained at lower temperature via 1,2 addition. Th eother is the thermodynamically favoured obtained via 1,4-addition product under the right conditions (usually more time and higher temperature).

In the given reaction, 1,2-addition generates only one chiral carbon.
