Physical properties of substances:

  • Physical states (solid, liquid and gas)
  • Density ( mass/volume)
  • Boiling point, melting point
  • Change of shape
  • Texture( hardness or softness)

Physical change

A substance is said to undergo a physical change when only the physical properties such as the shape, size, colour, state or appearance of the substance change. Its chemical composition remains intact.

Examples of physical change:

  • Dissolving sugar in water
  • Melting of wax
  • Beating aluminium to make aluminium foil
