Self induction
Whenever there is a change in current in a coil, the flux linked with itself changes and hence an E.M.F. in opposite direction is induced in the coil itself. This phenomenon is called self-induction.
The red circles in the diagram below represent the opposite E.M.F. induced in the coil due to change in the current through the coil.
