Question

Check whether n=4 or n=5 is the solution to the equation 2n=10.

Open in App
Solution

Solution must hold the equation true.
So, let’s check by substituting the value of n in the equation.
2n=10
Case 1: Substituting n=4 in the equation, we get,
LHS: 2(4)=8
RHS: 10
So, LHS ≠ RHS. Therefore, n=4 is not a solution to the equation.
Case 2: Substituting n=5 in the equation, we get,
LHS: 2(5)=10
RHS: 10
So, LHS = RHS.
Therefore, n=5 is a solution to the equation.
