Erythroblastosis foetalis is a special condition of Rh incompatibility observed when the mother is Rh-ve and foetus is Rh+ve.
During first pregnancy: When the first Rh+ve infant is born to the Rh-ve mother, some of the RBCs of the foetus may enter the mother’s body during delivery. This results in the formation of Rh antibodies in the mother’s blood.
During second pregnancy: If second child of the mother is also Rh+ve, the Rh antibodies present in the mother’s blood may attack and destroy the RBCs of the second child.
Conclusion
Child death may occur when the male parent is Rh+ve and female parent is Rh-ve since the second Rh+ve child may suffer from erythroblastosis foetalis.
