Question

Chitra soaks a filter paper in the potassium iodide solution.Then she takes the paper out from the solution and then spreads it on a metal sheet.She connects the wire attached to the positive terminal of the battery to the metal plate.She writes on the filter paper with the wire.Blue ink appears at the point where it has been written.Why would this happen? What part acts as cathode?

The above experimental setup is similar to a electrolytic solution connected to a discharging cell.
During discharge anions get deposited on the anode.Hence Iodide(I-) ions get deposited on the metal surfaces.Due to prescence of starch in tissue paper iodine molecules react to give blue color
