Solution

Accessory pigments

Accessory pigments are those pigments, which assist in photosynthesis such as chlorophyll-b, xanthophylls and carotenoids.

Role of accessory pigments in photosynthesis

● Accessory pigments absorb light of different wavelengths from the sunlight and pass their energy to chlorophyll a during the light reaction.
● They prevent the photooxidation of chlorophyll a molecules.
