Solution

The correct option is C Thylakoid membranes
Chlorophyll is a photosynthetic pigment. Photosynthetic pigments have the ability to trap sun energy and use this energy for photosynthesis. Chloroplasts are greenish plastids which possess photosynthetic pigments, chlorophylls and carotenoids and take part in the synthesis of food. Chloroplasts are double-membrane bound organelle having outer and inner membrane. The inner membrane is relatively less permeable to substances than outer membrane and thus, has more proteins including carrier proteins. The space enclosed by the inner membrane of the chloroplast is called stroma. Stroma contains a large number of organised flattened membranous sacs called thylakoids. Chlorophyll occurs in thylakoid membrane. Since they take part in photosynthesis; they are also called photosynthetic thylakoids. Thylakoids are thus the structural elements of the chloroplast. They generally run parallel but may show interconnections.
