Some of the aerial climbers such as Tinospora have got photosynthetic or assimilatory roots and the chloroplasts are found in their cortical cells. Roots that can carry out photosynthesis are called as photosynthetic roots. This is uncommon function for them but some plants have such roots. These are aerial roots (hanging in the air) and thus are exposed to light. They develop photosynthetic (green with chlorophyll or chloroplasts) tissue and thus carry out the function.
