Solution

  • An atom, molecule, or ion that has an unpaired valence electron is called a radical. Because of these unpaired electrons, radicals are highly reactive,
  • Barium Chloride(BaCl2) is used to test sulfate radicals.
  • To check the presence of sulfate radicals in a solution, the solution is acidified using a few drops of dilute hydrochloric acid, and adding a few drops of Barium Chloride(BaCl2) solution. A white precipitate of barium sulfate forms if sulfate ions are present.

Therefore, Barium Chloride is used to test sulfate radicals in any solution.
