A hypotonic solution is one where the osmotic concentration of inside cell is less than the surrounding solution. Due to this difference, endosmosis occurs i.e. the surrounding solvent starts to move into the cell.
In a hypertonic solution net movement occurs from inside of the cell to outside the cell whereas in isotonic solution net movement is zero.
