Solution

The correct option is A Chromosomes must have centromeres to move to opposite poles
  • Mitosis is also known as the equational division of cells where at the end of the cell division 2 daughter cells are formed each of which are identical to the mother cell.
  • The genetic material for the mitosis is replicated and doubled during the Sphase of the cell cycle.
  • The first phase of mitosis that is prophase is where the genetic material starts to condense and the nuclear membrane starts to disappear. The second phase metaphase is where the chromosomes are lined at the metaphase or equatorial plate and the spindle fibers formed from the centrioles are attached to the kinetochore or the centromere which are present in the middle of the chromosomes. These fibers are required to pull the chromosomes towards the poles of the dividing cells.
  • during the Anaphase which is the third stage of mitosis the chromosomes are pulled towards the poles by the spindle fiber
  • In the telophase which is the last phase the spindle fiber detach from the chromosomes and the disappear and the nuclear membrane starts to appear again and the genetic material decondenses.
  • Therefore the correct answer is the option 'Chromosomes must have centromeres to move to opposite poles'.
