Solution

The correct option is D

It is not a supporter of combustion

Characteristics of Carbon dioxide(CO2) gas-

  • It reacts with lime water(Calcium Hydroxide) which is a transparent solution and turns it into a milky substance, Calcium Carbonate(CaCO3).
  • CO2 gas does not support combustion.
  • Since, it is heavier than Oxygen(O2) gas, it can engulf a burning substance thereby cutting off the air supply hence, is used as a fire extinguisher.

Therefore, Option (D) is correct. Carbon dioxide is used in fire extinguishers because it is not a supporter of combustion.
