The ovaries have two primary components: the lining germinal epithelium and the inner ovarian stroma. The ovarian stroma is divided into two primary portions: the outer cortex and the inner medulla. The outer cortex contains all of the developing follicles in various stages of development whereas the inner medulla consists of a rich vasculature with nervous network and lymph vessels. The ovaries and testes are vital organs which are held at their respective positions through the scrotal ligament which attaches the testes to the scrotum and the mesovarium which attaches the ovaries to the abdominal wall. The uterus is made up of 3 layers - the outermost perimetrium, the middle myometrium and the innermost endometrium. The uterus has an opening called the internal os, which leads into the cervical canal. This canal opens into the vagina via an opening called the external os.
