When object is placed in between centre of curvature and focus, the light rays travelling parallel to pricipal axis from the object bends to diverge from a point called the principal focus (F1). As a result, the light rays doesn't meet each other to form a real image.
Here, a virtual and erect image is formed at the point where the light ray from object passing through optic centre intersects the diverging ray when extended backwards.
