In cockroaches, the mouth leads to the oesophagus which opens into a sac-like structure called crop (used for storing food). Crop is followed by a gizzard that helps in grinding of the food particles. A ring of 6-8 blind tubules called hepatic caeca is present at the junction of foregut and midgut, which secrete digestive juices. Malpighian tubules, present at the junction of midgut and hindgut, help in the removal of excretory products. Hindgut is differentiated into ileum, colon and rectum. The rectum opens out through anus.
