Prithviraj Chauhan won the first battle of Tarai but lost the second battle against Muhammad Ghuri. Ghuri annexed the North-Western regions and made his general Qutubuddin Aibak the in-charge of the conquered territories in India. Over time, he rose to better positions and after the demise of Sultan Muhammad of Ghur, Qutubuddin Aibak became the Sultan of the region. Many other famous Sultans followed which include Sultan Iltumish, Sultana Razia, Balban, Alauddin Khilji, Muhammad-bin- Tughluque, Firuz Tughluque, Ibrahim Lodi etc.
