The Mughal administration was always at loggerheads with the Sikhs because the Sikhs had a revenue system that didn’t really sit well with any administration. The Mughals had executed Guru Arjan. The imprisonment and execution of Guru Tegh Bahadur by emperor Aurangazeb aggravated the situation. The Sikhs had already organised themselves into a militant organisation - the Khalsa Dal. Aurangazeb wasn’t particularly pleased with the Khalsa Dal.
