Catabolic pathways are breakdown or degradation pathways which are exothermic i.e they release energy. Catabolic reactions release energy that are used in anabolic reactions. Anabolic reactions store energy that is released from a catabolic reaction. Metabolic pathways are linked to other reactions and are not isolated. Metabolic reactions can follow a linear (eg:- glycolysis) pathway or cyclic (Krebs’ cycle) pathway.
