The correct option is D It promotes the development of other secondary sexual characteristics such as appearance of axillary and pubic hair, etc.
Oestrogen is secreted by specialised structures in the ovary called ovarian follicles. The oestrogen secreted is of three main types, estrone, estradiol, and estriol.
Estradiol is the primary hormone, and is responsible for maturation of the ovum in the ovaries. As this is happening, the uterus must prepare itself for the possibility of a fertilised zygote. Oestrogen side by side stimulates proliferation and development of the uterine lining so as to provide a favourable place of attachment for the zygote.
In addition to these cyclical changes, oestrogen promotes growth of the mammary glands, commonly called breasts. Development of other secondary sexual characteristics, such as axial and pubic hair, and a high pitched voice are also stimulated by oestrogen.
