Momentum is a vector quantity, as it has both magnitude and direction.
Let 'p' be the momentum, 'm' be the mass and 'v' be the velocity.
We know, momentum,p=m×v
The SI unit of momentum is kgms1.
Since, an unbalanced force can bring a change in motion i.e., velocity; and momentum depends on velocity. Momentum can be changed by the application of unbalanced force.
A balanced force cannot bring a change in the motion, thus balanced force cannot change momentum.
