The French support to the Palayakkarars ended after the British defeated them at Pondicherry.

The three major forts of Puli Thevar - Nerkattumseval, Vasudevanallur and Panayur came under Yusuf Khan’s control by 1761. After the British defeated the French and took control of Pondicherry, Palayakkarars lost the French support as many of the Palayakkarar alliances broke up. Travancore, Seithur, Uthumalai and Surandai turned their backs on Puli Thevar and joined the opposition. He was defeated in 1767 when Captain Campbell attacked Nerkattumseval, recaptured by Puli Thevar in 1764.
