Thymus is bilobed gland located between lungs behind sternum on the ventral side of aorta.
• It plays a mjaor role in development of immune system.
• It is quite large at the time of birth but keeps on reducing in size with age and by the time puberty is attained it reduces to a very small size. As a result with the increase in age the immune response gradually becomes weak.
• Thymus gland secretes a peptide hormone called thymosin or thymin hormone.
