Solution

ACTH:

  1. ACTH is known as adrenocorticotropic hormone.
  2. It is a tropic hormone secreted from the anterior pituitary.

ADH:

  1. ADH (Antidiuretic hormone) or vasopressin is secreted from the posterior pituitary.
  2. ADH enhances the permeability of the wall of the distal convoluted tubule (DCT) and collecting duct of the nephron, to water.
  3. It causes excess reabsorption of water into kidney capillaries from DCT and the collecting duct of the nephron. As a result, the normal concentration of blood is restored and concentrated urine is produced.

FSH:

  1. FSH is known as follicle-stimulating hormone.
  2. It is a kind of gonadotropic hormone.
  3. It is secreted from the anterior pituitary.
  4. FSH stimulates the growth and maturation of the ovarian follicles (in females).
  5. It promotes oestrogen synthesis.
  6. FSH along with LH (Luteinising hormone) stimulate spermatogenesis (in males).

SH:

  1. There is no such kind of hormone in any organism.

Final answer:

Hence, the odd term is ‘SH’, and the rest of these are pituitary hormones.
