Olfactory indicators are the substances whose smell (or odour) changes in acidic or basic solutions. When an acid or base is added to it, then its characteristic smell cannot be detected.
Olfactory indicators are onion, vanilla extract and clove oil.
Characteristics of Olfactory indicators are given below :
Onion : When onion is treated with base its smells vanished while on treatment with acid its smells persists.
Vanilla Extract : When Vanilla Extract is treated with base its smells vanished while on treatment with acid its smells persists.
Clove oil : In basic solution its smell cannot be detected.
