The best fit for both the sentences is Option C, 'Invalid'. We use invalid if we want to say that any document is invalid i.e. legally not acceptable, like in sentence 1. We also use invalid for a person who has been sick for a long time and unable to take care of himself , the context of the second sentence. Option A 'Useless' means which is of no use. Option B 'Defective' means faulty. Both of these options A and B cannot be used for the second sentence. Option D 'destitute' means extremely poor or penniless person .
