Fatty acids and glycerol are insoluble and hence cannot be directly absorbed into the blood. They first form small droplets called micelles which move into the intestinal mucosa. Here, they are coated with protein to form chylomicrons which are then transported into the lymph vessels (lacteals) in the villi. The lacteals finally release them into the blood stream.
