Solution

Elements: A pure substance that can neither be reduced further nor can be formed by physical or chemical methods and is made up of same type of atoms.

Compounds: It is a substance that is formed by mixing two or more elements in a defined ratio.

Mixtures: It is a substance made by mixing two or more pure substances in an undefined proportion.

(i) Coal: It is a mixture of many inorganic substances.

(ii) Methane: It is a compound of carbon and hydrogen (CH4).

(iii) Copper: It is an element having one type of atom.

(iv) Carbon dioxide - It is a compound of carbon and oxygen (CO2).

(v) Steam - It is a gaseous state of water (H2O) and hence a compound.

(vi) Honey - It is a mixture of natural substances.

(vii) Granite - It is a mixture of many inorganic salts.

(viii) Blood - It is a mixture of cells, proteins and plasma.

(ix) Sugar - It is a compound of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen (C12H22O11).

(x) Germanium - It is an element having the same type of atoms.

Therefore, (iii) and (x) are classified as elements, (ii), (iv), (v) and (ix) are compounds and (i), (vi), (vii) and (viii) are classified as mixtures.
