Common salt i.e.; Sodium chloride (NaCl) is a homogeneous matter.

  • This is because common salt is uniform in its constitution and properties throughout.
  • It consists of only one type of constituent particle i.e. Sodium chloride and is a homogeneous pure substance constituting only Sodium ions (Na+) and chloride ions(Cl-).

Homogeneous matter: Any substance that exhibits uniformity in its composition and properties throughout its mass is known as a homogeneous matter. Homogeneous matter can be further divided into two parts i.e.;

  • Pure substances: When only one type of constituent particle is present in the substance. Example: Substances like Copper (Cu) Iron (Fe) , etc. and substances like Water (H2O) Hydrochloric acid (HCl)
