Question

Classify the following reaction into exothermic and endothermic reactions-

Reaction between carbon and oxygen.

Open in App
Solution

  1. Exothermic reactions: The chemical reactions during which heat (energy) is evolved are called exothermic reactions.
  2. Endothermic reactions: The chemical reactions during which heat (energy) is absorbed during a reaction are called endothermic reactions.
  3. Reaction between Glucose and oxygen: When Carbon (C) is burnt in oxygen(O2), Carbon dioxide (CO2) is produced with the release of heat.

C(s)+O2(g)CO2(g)+HeatCarbonOxygenCarbondioxide

4. Hence, the reaction between carbon and oxygen is an exothermic reaction.
