Dear Student,
Colonial agrarian policy changed the nature and character of rural life in India. It led to commercialization of agriculture as farmers required cash to pay land revenue to the British. It ended the cooperative relationship that used to exist between landlords and tenants in Indian villages where, in times of need, landlords used to support their tenants with food and income. British policies eliminated this relationship which was one the main reason why famines became so severe in India during British rule.
