Solution
The chemical reaction in which materials like fossil fuels react with Oxygen to produce Carbon dioxide along with heat energy and light is called combustion. Thus, the burning of fossil fuels causes a lot of pollution in the environment.
Example- Coal and diesel release sulfur dioxide gas. It is an extremely suffocating and harmful gas. Moreover, petrol engines give off gaseous oxides of nitrogen.
Oxides of sulfur and nitrogen dissolve in rainwater and form acids. Thus, the combustion of fossil fuels is producing acid rain and damaging plants (crops), soil, and aquatic life. The burning of fossil fuels is increasing the amount of greenhouse gas carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.
We can use two alternative sources of energy to control this pollution are:-
Solar energy: Solar panels can be installed that would harness or use the solar energy of the sun to run machines or generate power.
Wind energy: In wind energy, the wind is used as a source of energy. Wind turbines are installed which generate energy when turned.
