Solution

  1. Electropositive element: An electropositive element is one that tends to lose electrons and form positively charged ions.
  2. Metals: The elements which can easily form positive ions (cation) by losing or donating electrons are called metals.
  3. For example, Sodium(Na), with atomic number11, has 1e- in its valence shell which can easily lose to form Na+ ion.
  4. Metals typically possess a few electrons in their valence shell which they can lose to form a positive ion, hence metals are called electropositive elements.
  5. Examples: Sodium(Na), Aluminium(Al), Copper(Cu), Iron(Fe), Tin(Sn), Gold(Au), Lead(Pb), etc.
