Solution
(a) Aqueous solution of AgNO3
Ag++e−→Ag↓H2O→H++OH−4OH−→O2↑+2H2O+4e−
H+ ions remains in solution. Hence, the value of pH decreases.
(b) Aqueous saturated solution of KCl
H2O→H++OH−2H++2e−→H2↑2Cl−→Cl2↑+2e
OH− ions remain in solution and hence, the pH increases.
(c) Cu2++2e−→Cu2Cl−→Cl2+2e−
Both H+ ions and OH− ions remain in solution and hence, there is no change in pH.
