Question

Comment on the export and import of the Indian economy on the eve of independence

Open in App
Solution

Dear student,
At the time of independence India enjoyed a huge export surplus. However, the surplus was on account of export of primary products. The essential commodities remained in short supply in the domestic market. The revenue was used to finance the war expenses. There was huge drain of wealth from the economy.
