Question

comment on the nature of bonds present in a molecule of XY when you have these additional information

1) the compound exist in the solid state.

2)it has a very high melting point.

3)its aqueous solution makes an excellent electrolyte.

Solution

If the compound exist in solid state , it can be any one of these 4 types of bonding.
1)covalent bond which form network covalent solids or simply covalent solids.
2)ionic bond forming ionic solid
3) metallic bond forming metallic solid
4)weak intermolecular bond forming molecular solid.
Among these ionic solid has the highest melting point.
so the compound have a chance to be ionic solid.
It is also said in the question that the compound make an excelent electrolyte in aqous solution.this means that the compound completely dissociates into X and Y ions.from this it is clear that the compound is uonic, becayse only ionic compounds will dissociate completely in aquos solution.
so the bond in the compound XY is Ionic bond.
hope you understand.all the best.
