Hydrogen is the lightest, smallest and first element. Its electronic configuration is the simplest of all the elements. It occupies a unique position in the periodic table. In its properties, it behaves like alkali metals as well as halogens.
In the periodic table, it is placed on the top of alkali metals. 'H' can lose one electron and form H+, which resembles like alkali metals that yield ions.
It can also gain an electron from H− like halogens.
Thus 'H' is unique and anomalous in being similar to 2 different groups.
